If a landlord wishes to re-rent a rental unit that was the subject of an occupancy declaration by them within two years of the rental unit's vacation, they must file with the LAHD (Los Angeles Housing Department) a notice of intent to re-rent the rental unit. Within three months of the tenant's vacation in the rental unit, the landlord must file with the LAHD a declaration of occupancy under penalty of perjury stating that the rental unit is occupied by the person in whose name they terminated the lease.
